GCS launches school program in South Australia
Global Community Sports, supported by the South Australia Government is launching its flagship program, Global Sports ~ Global Learning to local Adelaide schools in 2015.
The Premier’s Department of the South Australia Government is extremely supportive of this project as it is complimenting their engagement strategy with India by encouraging schools and young people to learn more about the Indian culture. By doing this through sport it is also encouraging physical activity and the development of new skills that come from experiencing new sports. The Premier’s department has agreed to subsidise approximately 85% of the cost of delivery to schools in S.A. For more information regarding the government’s support of this program feel free to contact Goska Serafin-Rai at firstname.lastname@example.org .
The Global Sports ~ Global Learning program consists of 12 sessions. Each session includes 1 practical lesson and 1 theory lesson. Students receive coaching in a particular sport by local coaches. The group then participates in classroom activities whereby they record their experiences in the form of a sports coaching manual. The manual is a collection of their work which includes their wording of the rules and equipment required to play as well as detailed instructions for how to perform the skills. It also includes information about their school and their daily routines and lifestyle. This is then published and sent to a school in India where it is used to teach the Indian children how to play that particular sport. A letter/report full of pictures and photos is then sent back to the SA school from the children in India explaining how they used the manual and what their thoughts of the sport are. It also includes details of where they live and their culture. This relationship can continue post program.
The Global Sport ~ Global Learning program has been successfully delivered to over 60 schools and young offender institutes in England and we are now ready to share the program with schools in Australia.
Global Community Sports is partnering with Phil Smyth’s Basketball Academy and Handball S.A. to offer a variety of sporting options for schools to choose from.
A more detailed description of the program can be found on our website.
