11 questions to ask myself when watching my child play sport.

1. Does my child look they enjoy playing this sport?
2. Are they having fun?
3. Am I shouting instructions at them from the sidelines?
4. Is this helping them or hindering them?
5. Would they even tell me if I asked?
6. Why not?
7. Am I abusing the Referee or the opposition?
8. Would I find it acceptable if my child did this?
9. Will I bombard my child with all the things they didn’t do very well straight after the game even if I think it is constructive?
10. Will I hold off from giving feedback for a couple days and instead just tell my child I love them and love watching them play sport?
11. Am I allowing my child to just be themselves, to learn, to play and to enjoy this sport for themselves or am I accidentally seeking to relive my own sporting successes or make up for sporting failures by living vicariously through them?
